Dear Lancer Family,

This year marks SHARE’s 34th year at Shawnee Mission East. While we’ve seen many changes over the years, this has certainly been the most unusual. Despite this year’s challenges and uncertainties, our student leaders have risen to every occasion. They know the needs are greater than ever, and have adapted their plans to support their programs in safe and creative ways.

  • When Brighton Gardens restricted in-person visits, Emily Moseley. Maeve Linscott, and their team continued to lift the residents’ spirits by decorating the exterior spaces for Fall and Winter, organized a Thanksgiving Food drop-off, and gathered supplies and assembled holiday gift bags. They have big plans for Valentine’s Day and Spring too!

  • Upon learning the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Bake Sale was canceled, MJ Wolf and Sarah McConwell switched gears and talked to local business, Summersalt, about donating a portion of all sales one afternoon to the cause. It was a huge success - raising more than twice as much as in previous years!

  • After Elementary schools limited outside visitors and our “School Buddies” program was suspended, Sneha Thomas envisioned  an “Online Storytime” with school librarians where older students could record themselves reading their favorite books.

In addition, our students have continued to volunteer on-site when conditions allowed, assembled gift bags and supply kits, written letters to breast cancer patients and seniors citizens, conducted supply and gift drives, researched non-profits for Junior Board, and much more.

As you can see, we’re still here and going strong, but we need your help. Please "SHARE the LOVE”  by clicking on this link to make a donation to the SME SHARE program. We have built such a strong program and want it to continue to thrive.  In these uncertain times it is more important than ever to have our students involved in helping our community.   Thank you for your support!

We promise to continue to make you, our community, proud. If you have any questions about any of our projects or programs, don't hesitate to contact us at

Most Sincerely and with appreciation,
